Margarida soon learned to “beat the cloth” with her mother, Maria Fernanda, who was also a weaver.
When she was 16 years old, she learned the “rifado” technique from Mrs. Aninhas, mainly due to the lack of alternatives, rather than for her self-recognized talent.
However, over the time and with lots of practice, she became motivated and developed her skills. Aged only 19, she created her own weaving company. Today she can’t see herself doing anything else.
At home, flax and linen have no secrets for the family women. They plant and cultivate flax every year and they use it to differentiate and value their product.
